Phuthaditjhaba, formerly the capital city of Witsieshoek or QwaQwa, is a town nestled in the Free State province. The name "Phuthaditjhaba" originates from Sesotho, meaning "Meeting Place of the Tribes." Situated in the picturesque foothills of the Maluti Mountains, it is bordered by the province of Kwazulu-Natal to the southeast and Lesotho to the southwest.

This area has emerged as a prominent destination for adventure travelers globally, drawing increasing numbers of visitors each year. Overnight at Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge, and hikes in the spectacular Tugela Valley with a choice of hikes to the well-known Sentinel Peak, Beacon Buttress Gully, or the Gudu Falls trail for those with a fear of heights.
 
You will experience sleeping at the Bothobapelo Country Lodge which includes a hike to the historical Bashoeshoe Caves, educational tours, traditional food tasting and donkey car rides.

 

Explore renowned dams in the area before culminating your journey with a guided tour of the Basotho Cultural Village, ensuring a finale that leaves a lasting impression of this rich cultural tapestry.
